Education transforms lives, especially for the poor and most vulnerable. Audrey Hepburn once said, “A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children with the protection they need from the hazards of poverty, labor exploitation and disease, and given them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.” However, many children today are being deprived of the opportunity for an education. According to UNICEF, only two thirds of secondary school-aged children around the world are enrolled in school; and in the least developed countries that drops to one third.
Millions of children will never see the inside of a classroom, instead they are being taught on the streets where problems more immense than just a lack of education rise. These children are at greater risk of exploitation, early marriage, alcohol and drug use, prostitution, crime, and teen pregnancy than children receiving an education. This negative trend is not only destroying those individual lives, it is devastating to the families and communities in which they live.
Children living in developing countries are unable to attend school for many reasons, but poverty is perhaps the most prevalent obstacle preventing them from receiving an education. We have seen this to be true in Githurai 45 (also called Githurai Kimbo). Many families are unable to afford tuition, textbooks and uniforms for their children. For these children, attending school is a privilege they can only dream about.
In an effort to help make these dreams come true, Go Ministries has partnered with PEFA Kimbo All Nations Gospel Church in Githurai Kimbo to sponsor children in need of educational assistance. Ministry leaders at PEFA Kimbo identify children who are presently not enrolled in school or who are at risk of being unable to pay school fees. Once identified, determination must be made as to the willingness of all parties involved:

- does the child want to go to school?
- does the child desire to acquire knowledge and continually improve their skills?
- does the parent or guardian want the child to go to school?
- will the parent or guardian support and encourage the child?
Annual cost for a child to attend school for one term is approximately $150 - $200, depending on the school. When a child is sponsored we not only pay for tuition, but also for other items that assist with the education of the student including but not limited to:
- Books and Supplies
- 2 Sets of uniforms with socks and shoes, gym outfit
- A book bag
- Transportation to and from school
- Boarding school supplies such as soaps, sanitary pads, toothpaste etc.
- Lunch or snack programs that a few schools do not offer
